All Aboard for History!
Tucson is celebrating the 125th anniversary of the railroad in Tucson
with the opening of a new museum near downtown. The exhibits were designed,
fabricated and installed by Interpretive Exhibits, Inc.
The Southern Arizona Transportation Museum, which opened
in March 2005, is housed in the former records building of the four-building
depot complex at the east end of downtown Tucson.
The museum includes interpretive exhibits which show the history of
the area as it relates to transportation; a diorama; a media wall and
several interactive exhibits. Just outside the door visitors will find
a classic steam engine, the historic Locomotive 1673, a circa-1900 engine
donated to the city by Southern Pacific in the fifties.
